İstanbul belediye başkanı Ekrem İmamoğlu'nun yüksek profilli davası, bir kamu görevlisine hakaret ettiği iddiasıyla aldığı yeni hapis cezası, Türkiye'nin yargı bağımsızlığını sorgulamaya neden oldu. İmamoğlu'na destek amacıyla yapılan protestolar, genç göstericilerin ve İşçi Partisi üyelerinin de aralarında bulunduğu daha fazla gözaltıya yol açtı. Demokratik gerileme endişelerine rağmen, AB'nin bu konuları ele almak yerine Türkiye ile güvenlik işbirliğine öncelik verdiği görünüyor.
CHP, soruşturmaların siyasi doğasını vurgulayarak savcılara karşı şikayetlerde bulunarak yanıt verdi.

It’s honestly alarming to see Turkey sliding further away from democratic norms, especially with the blatant targeting of opposition figures like Imamoglu. When the judiciary is used as a political weapon, it just erodes trust in the whole system. The EU really needs to step up and defend democratic values instead of looking the other way for the sake of security deals.

Honestly, the West is always quick to criticize Turkey, but they never look at how these opposition figures try to undermine national unity and stability. If someone breaks the law, they should face the consequences—no one is above the country, no matter their political position.

Looks like Turkey’s so-called democracy is just for show when the ruling party feels threatened. The EU turning a blind eye just proves they care more about their own interests than actually defending freedom.
